Farida El Kouni

Born in Cairo, Egypt. Though her choice of education was non-artistic, her life choice however, took a different turn in 2015. Farida, graduating law school, spent the first years of her career working in the banking sector. She started pursuing her passion for art by taking art classes at El-Marsam Art School, led by Farida Darweesh.

She has worked with charcoal, pastel colours and oil colours. The palette knife is one tool common to her due to the richness it adds to the painting. Farida recently took to cubism, resulting in paintings that appear fragmented and abstracted. 2017 marked a turning point in her art career when her work was displayed at the Cairo Opera House in January and later at Darb 1718 Art Gallery in April.

Around the theme “Colours of Egyp,t” Farida, along with another three Egyptian female artists were invited to exhibit in Paris, Berlin, Madrid, London, Vienna and Rome. After the exhibitions’ resounding success, “Colours of Egypt” finally took place at Kahila Gallery in their homeland. “Colours of Egypt” resumed its international tour exhibiting in Budapest then Prague in 2019.

In 2020, “Colours of Egypt” artists took another step and opened their art Gallery in Cairo-
Egypt in hope of providing more opportunities for more Egyptian artists.
Revealing the hidden magic of her country to the world through art, is one of Farida’s dreams finally coming true.
