Mohamed Sabry 1917- 2018 He was from the Higher School of Applied Arts,1937. He held the first exhibition of his paintings at the Goldenberg Salon in Cairo, in 1943, and he won the first prize in painting in the artistic literary festival held by the Ministry of Public Education in 1948. Sabry excelled in using pastel colors, which is a tough material with a high density and requires great practice. His colleagues and students called him “the pioneer of pastel art in Egypt.” His work is acquired by many museums and official institutions, including the National Museum of Modern Art in Cairo, the Museum of Fine Arts in Valencia, Spain, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Granada, Spain, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Bank of Egypt. The subjects of his paintings varied between the Egyptian environment, Pharaonic antiquities, the Egyptian countryside, ancient Cairo, Islamic antiquities in Andalusia, social life in Spain and landscapes in Morocco.
