Zienab Ahmed Raafat EL Seguiny
was born in Cairo in 1930. Zainab spent the first days of her childhood in the Daher district, and she also lived in a number of neighborhoods in Old Cairo, such as Al-Hussein, Al-Gamaleya, Al-Azhar, and Al-Nahhasin.
Zainab obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Department of Decorative Arts, Helwan University in 1956. In addition, Zainab graduated from the Higher Institute of Art Education in 1957. She obtained a PhD in the Philosophy of Art Education in 1978 .
Zainab assumed the position of Head of the Design Department at the Faculty of Art Education, Helwan University. She also assumed the position of a full-time professor in the Design Department at the Faculty of Art Education, Helwan University.
Zainab was keen to make women the focus of her works, as she addressed topics related to motherhood and childhood in her paintings. There is no painting that does not include women. Zainab wanted to express women, that bird that flies alone in a society that no one cares about. Zainab wanted to give women a large space in her works. She made everyone who sees her paintings wonder why all this attention is given to women? But Zainab alone knows the answer to this question. Critic Salah Bitar commented on what he saw of the artwork of artist Zainab Al-Sajini in the exhibition that was opened by Dr. Hamdi Abu Al-Maati, the head of the Fine Artists Syndicate, at the Zamalek Art Hall, saying that “the artist’s works are a very private world overflowing with feelings and emotions. Feelings of motherhood that flow like the waves of the Nile and are crowned with nobility and purity in a new visual language characterized by expressive innocence, simplicity of nature, eloquence of formation, and depth of expression. She is always looking for an icon in her works, because every era has its own charm and brilliance, and its own characteristics and aesthetics.”
