MOHAB ABDEL GHAFFAR

Mohab Abdel Ghaffar is a Canadian-Egyptian visual artist whose practice spans printmaking, painting, and abstraction. He graduated in 1983 from the Department of Printmaking and Design at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Alexandria University. He later studied Graphic Design at Humber College in Toronto and Printmaking at OCAD University.

Abdel Ghaffar’s artistic practice has evolved through a continuous exploration of abstraction, materiality, and the relationship between visual form and human consciousness. Since 2004, his work has increasingly explored a dialogue between modern abstraction and the visual language, symbolism, and spiritual heritage of ancient Egyptian civilization. His later works expand this inquiry through diverse techniques and materials, incorporating influences from ancient Egyptian and Mesopotamian art within contemporary visual structures.

Alongside his artistic practice, Abdel Ghaffar has taught printmaking at several institutions internationally and contributes to art discourse through his Facebook platform, From Image to Text, dedicated to art criticism and visual arts discussions.
