Effat Nagy

1905 1994 

She was fascinated by culture and music. She studied art with a private tutor alongside her brother, the artist Mohamed Nagy. She was formally trained at the Academy of Arts in Rome in 1947, and worked in Egypt with Andre Lotet, who used Egyptian antiquities as a raw material.

She married the painter  “Saad al-Khadem” in 1945, He was an artist and researcher who was inspired by her art .Effat Nagy received a compliment from her brother in 1956 when he said that her work exceeded his which was restricted to his academic training.

In 1964 Effat exhibited her work at the High Dam Exhibition, which was the result of work she was commissioned to do the previous year, when she was asked to record antiquities that could be submerged under the waters of the Aswan Dam upon its construction. She was among 64 artists chosen to do this work.
