Ahmed Hamdy Abdel Gawad
Egyptian contemporary artist Abdel Gawad graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in 2009. Growing up in a coastal city where families relied primarily on fishing and agriculture to secure a living, had an impact on him and on the topics he chooses to paint.
Abdel Gawad tends to use layers with silent, but vividly expressive, elements that symbolize hunting, benevolence and sustenance. Some of these symbols can be found in vessels, animals and birds which he includes in his work.
“On the foreground of my canvas , these elements are found in a dark room that is penetrated by a powerful ray of light that brings them to life . To me, this symbolizes the sustenance of hope, as well as the prosperity and generosity of nature. Darkness cannot be permanent, light will always find its way in. ‘’
