ALI MOHAMED AZZAM

1929

postgraduate diploma in media from Cairo University. At the beginning of his career, he was influenced by his teacher, Saif Wanly, and his works tended towards abstraction and explicit color spaces. He moved to Cairo and was greatly influenced by ancient Egyptian, Coptic, and Islamic antiquities. His style turned to metaphysics, and his colors changed to grays and browns, in keeping with the metaphysical themes he addressed in his paintings.

The great artist Ali Azzam was influenced by the rhythm of life in the capital, from the alleys of Al-Azhar district to the streets of Fatimid Egypt. The Egyptian countryside near Cairo was also engraved in his conscience. He was always passionate about the rhythm of life there and about the Egyptian peasant woman, her delicacy, her clothes, and her organic movement, which rivals in its elegance and delicacy the most beautiful fashion models.

Azzam traveled all over Egypt, pursuing his passion for depicting the lives of the simple people with his brush. He wandered between Luxor and Aswan, and the beaches of Anfoushi in Alexandria, passing by Lake Qarun in Fayoum. He interacted with the Egyptian environment in all its diversity, and expressed it honestly, so his paintings appeared honest, “almost speaking.

The artist has participated in many public and private exhibitions inside and outside the country since the late fifties until now.
