He studied at Al-Sa’idiya Secondary School , under the supervision of Youssef Al-Afifi. He obtained his baccalaureate from Mansoura Secondary School in 1937. He joined the decoration department at the Higher School of Fine Arts in Cairo, then the drawing department at the Institute of Education for Teachers in 1942. He was sent to Ohio to study for a master’s degree and a doctorate, but he left his studies in 1947 and moved to Chicago and joined the Institute of Design between 1948 and 1950 , where he studied the Bauhaus movement , then returned to Ohio, where he stayed for two months before moving to New York ( 1950-1953 ) , to study in the Department of Art Education at New York University .
